Cristiano Ronaldo was named the best player in the history of
Portuguese football at the Gala Quinas de Ouro ceremony on Wednesday
night.
The award was part of the commemorations to celebrate 100 years of the Portuguese Football Federation.
The Real Madrid superstar, who was unable to attend because of his
club’s Copa del Rey clash with Atletico Madrid on Thursday, managed to
beat off the challenge of legends Eusebio and Luis Figo in the voting.
His agent Jorge Mendes collected the accolade in his honour, with
both FIFA President Sepp Blatter and UEFA President Michel Platini there
to see Ronaldo announced as the winner.
