Three leaders of the recently attempted military coup against Burundi
President Pierre Nkurunziza have been arrested, The BBC reports.
Earlier, Gen Niyombare told the AFP news
agency that he and his followers were going to surrender, adding: "I
hope they won't kill us".
Those arrested will be charged with mutiny in a military court, said Willy Nyamitwe, a government spokesman according to the CNN.
The announcement of the arrests came after President Pierre Nkurunziza, who was in Tanzania, said he had returned to his country. It was not immediately clear exactly where he was, but he congratulated citizens and security forces for their patriotism.
